Darrell Winfree went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 1, 2024. Born on January 9th, 1964 at Rickenbacker Air Force Base, Columbus, Ohio to Charles D. Winfree and Norma Jean Atkins-Winfree. Darrell attend and graduated from South High School in 1982. During his time at South, he excelled in football and basketball but if you let him tell it, he was a math genius as well (LOL). After graduation he moved to Fremont, California to work construction with his maternal Uncle Sonny. He resided in Cali for almost two years before deciding to return home. Once he returned home, he worked for Tigerpoly for many years. He left that profession to follow his passion, which was working with At Risk Youth and Adults with Disabilities. He continued this service until he became disabled.
Darrell lived a life full of love and adventure. He most loved spending time with family and friends. He loved all things sports. He thoroughly enjoyed arguing with Ohio State, Pittsburgh Steelers and Boston Celtics fans, as he was an avid Michigan Wolverine, Cleveland Brown and LA Lakers fan (LOL). During family time, you could catch him cheating in spades, dominos, tonk, rummy and trouble, just to name a few. If he wasn’t cheating in table games, he was talking smack at the bowling alley. Darrell had a heart of gold, a joke for any and every occasion, and a contagious laugh. We will truly miss him, his loud mouth and his no rhythm two left feet having self.
Darrell is preceded in death by both parents, Charles and Norma and Big Brother Charles (Douglas). He leaves to cherish his memories, his only son, Darrell Keith Winfree, II; sister, Rhonda (LePaso) Walker, Sr.; niece, India Walker; nephews, Charles Keith (Brande) Winfree, LePaso Walker, Jr; favorite little/big cousin, Terry Bumgardner; best friend, John Swayne; as well as a host of relatives and friends.
