David Henry Caldwell, 83, departed his earthly home on September 8, 2014 at OSU East Hospital. David was born June 24, 1931 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Anderson, Sr. and Mary Ina Caldwell. David (“BIG Dave” as he was affectionately known by family and friends) was a graduate of Central High School and was an outstanding basketball player during his high school years. After graduation he played basketball for various teams such as MC Wines, the Pythian Drugs and the U.S. Army. He worked at Timken’s, Westinghouse and TICO (Training Institution Central Ohio) during his lifetime. “BIG Dave’s” favorite pastimes were listening to and collecting jazz music, watching basketball, attending track and field events and spending time with his White Castle and McDonald’s buddies. He also enjoyed attending the Caldwell Family Reunions. He was preceded in death by parents Anderson Caldwell, Sr. and Mary Ina Caldwell; 7 brothers, Alva, Arthur, John, Audee, Nathaniel, Anderson, Jr. and Clark Caldwell; 4 sisters, Sally Nivins, Maxine Ashton (Philadelphia, PA), Mary Lambert and Frances E. Cabiness. “BIG Dave” leaves to cherish his memory his loving daughter, Xandra Fincher; grandson, David Fincher; brother, Richard E. (Cara) Caldwell; former wife, Lois Brown and special friend, Hollywood fame Hal Williams; many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, extended family and friends.
