David Lester Paige

David Lester Paige died at the age of 74 on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 after a 20 year battle with cancer. He leaves behind a loving wife, Ruth Paige, whom he met while a student at The Ohio State University and was married to for 50 years. Mr. Paige had four children, Julia Paige Spangler (Dan) of Half Moon Bay, California, Sophia Paige Feemster (Jeff), Alia Paige (Charles) and David Paige (Daisy), all residing in Charlotte, North Carolina; five grandchildren, David Lester Paige, III, Paige Ruth Feemster, Luca David Spangler, Stella Paige Spangler and Noah Daniel Spangler. He also has a sister, Beatty Paige Johnson, who resides in Cleveland, Ohio. David Paige was born in Cotton Plant, Arkansas to Searcy Lee Valentine and Ernest Paige. He lived there until he turned 15 and then moved with his family to Cleveland, Ohio. He attended Cleveland East Technical High School and was the state pole vault and mile relay champion in 1959. He went on to attend and graduate from The Ohio State University where participated on the Track and Field team and was the captain his senior year. David Paige worked in the Columbus City Schools for many years and then started his own company, Aluminum Recycling. He enjoyed the entrepreneurial venture for over a decade. He returned to the Columbus City Schools where he served as an administrator. He served as a middle and high school principal and eventually retired in 2005. David Paige spent his retirement years golfing and working on several patents, one of which was his “PAIGE PUTTER”. He pledged the Omega Psi Phi fraternity while at The Ohio State University and he continued to be an active member until his death.
