David Michael Grier was blessed to be released from all pain and illness, which he had endured from his early youth throughout his life. David had nicknamed himself “Crutch.” Anyone who knew him and became his family friend was given a nickname as well. David goes to join many best friends and family members, James Phillips, Monroe James, Raymond Blackwell; uncle; Norman Gilstrap; and cousin, James Sims. Preceded in death as well by father, John Issac Grier; mother, Elizabeth (Gilstrap) Grier; aunt, Nellie “Bebe” Grace; sisters, Barbara Kendrick and Tonie Grier. David was never allowed to see himself as handicapped, thus he learned how to swim, play underwater dice and loved to dance. He was never one to be dependent upon others and he worked until his health prevented him from doing so. He drove his car until he was ordered by his doctor to refrain from driving. David was a self taught cook and would often demand and receive special meals from his sisters, Jeannie, Tonie, Barbara and Mekeda. He was spoiled and stubborn as he was the only boy out of 5 children. David was special in many ways and will be sorely missed by those of us he has left behind for just a little while his daughter, Daniele (Martin) Ruffin; granddaughter, Devyn (Aaron) Shelton; great-grandson, Aaron Shelton IV. In the end, he sat down and let God have his way. He wanted no big fuss and to be laid to rest with his mother. We the Family share this moment together with our extended family members. Peace and God Bless us all as one day we will also answer the Master’s Call to come home. No more pain, no more stress and no more worries of this Earthly realm. We will be given a new house, not made by man’s hands. Peace our Brother. We will see you again. Service: Private Arrangements Per Family Request Columbus, OH
