Delfreda Louise Porter

June 16, 1957 — June 17, 2014

Delfreda Louise Porter, age 57, peacefully left this physical body on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Kobacker House. Tired from the long journey, she closed her eyes and joined the heavenly choir. Delfreda was born on June 16, 1957 in Columbus, Ohio and graduated from Linden McKinley High School. She went on to earn her degree in Medical Assistance and attended Pre-Medical classes at Columbus State Community College. She was employed with Riverside-Doctors North Hospital for 31 years until she became ill, retiring under disability. Delfreda started teaching Sunday school at an early age at Lee Avenue United Methodist Church. There she was moved by God to become a Minister under the Pastoral Leadership of Reverend Linda Crosby. Since that day, she never stopped or wavered in serving the Lord. Delfreda was a true servant of Jesus Christ, ministering the Word to everyone with whom she came in contact. A loving and devoted sister, aunt, niece and cousin, she always made time to listen to each and everyone. She was a devoted Sunday school teacher who became a strong spiritual mother to many youth in teaching the word of God. Delfreda was a licensed Lay Minister of the United Methodist Conference, Missionary, Evangelist and District Sunday School teacher in the Church Of God In Christ, and an Evangelist at Travelers Rest Missionary Baptist Church. Delfreda was a member of several musical choirs around Columbus, Ohio, including the Columbus Vocal Union, New Hope Community Choir, Resurrection Mass Choir, Keith Dobbins, Raymond Wise and Rev. Mel Griffin choirs. Freda, as many called her, enjoyed caring for her mother, hanging out with her Aunt Johnella, having fun with children and fussing with her sister Rosalind. She loved to hang out with family and recalling memories of days gone by and singing the old gospel and RB songs. She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Louise Porter, grandparents, Hattie and Ezra Bosley, Della B. Wallace, and Mary Porter, sister Donna Mae Rogers, uncles, Finis Porter, Carnell, Dalton, Roger, William, and Earnest Ray Bosley, aunts, Johnella Ware, Rosa L. Walker and Mary Flournoy, and other relatives. Those who remain to cherish memories of Delfreda include her sister, Rosalind; brother, David Jr.; nieces, Tenice Porter, Leprea Goodgame, Wrisper (Robert) Briggs, and Rogetta (Oscar) Woods; nephews, David Isaiah Porter-Jones and Charles Rogers; great nieces and nephews, Saeviyanna, Zaevaughn, Kim, Michelle, Terrentino, Airreonna, Amaia; six great-great nieces and nephews and four great-great-great nieces and nephews; aunts, Sylvia (George) Crawford, Lucretta Bosley-Toney of Hamlet, North Carolina, Viola, Inez and Candy Bosley; uncle Herman (Helen) Bosley; special and Loving Second Mom “Ms. Ann”; and many other family and friends.
