Deserette Turner

October 14, 1932 — March 5, 2023

Deserette A. Turner was born in Columbus, Ohio, on October 14, 1932, into a loving family, parents Angus & Mary (Simmons) Binns which included two young brothers William & Ralph. She gave her life to the Lord at age 14, when she joined the Mount Calvary Holiness Church. All of her early education took place in Columbus Public Schools and she was among many who graduated from East High School's, June - Class of 1950.

Just like most of us young folks at age 16, Deserette fell & stumbled. However, the Lord reached down and picked her up returning her to the fold. At that time Deserette joined the "FAMILY" at Trinity Baptist Church. Never sitting on her hands, as a new member she found herself spiritually serving in the church's nursery dealing with children from the cradle up to five years of age. From there she became a part of both the Usher Board, & Missionary Ministry, which included the Mission Chorus. She was also appointed delegate for the Lott Carey Foreign Mission Convention. She's always had a big heart toward those hurting in any capacity, so it was a no-brainer when Dee joined the Comfort Ministry after retirement. Not to mention that she had been a one-woman team for many years of her own personal Out Reach Ministry.

Deserette has always had a great love for Sunday School which dates back to the teaching of Sister Lucinda Perry. After many years of attending Reverend E. A. Parham's class, he appointed her to substitute for absent teachers. Over 25 years ago she was paired up to teach with Sister Emogene Berry & the rest of this section of her story is history.

Amongst the many jobs, Deserette dabbles in we'll only name a few... Seamstress, Cook, BC Bartender, Avon Manager, Realtor, Home Maker, and her work history came to an end when she retired after 26 years of service as a receptionist at the Attorney General's Office.

Hobbies of this Woman of God included: Avid reader, Visiting and Sending cards to the sick and shut-in, Gardening, Breaking Bread with many for lunch, Sunday Dinners with both family and friends, Ceramics, playing the piano, watching some Good old Cowboy Movies, Game Shows, DVD's based on true stories e.g. "Bonds of Love," and believe it or not, Bowling.

Deserette is preceded in death by her husband, David Turner, daughter, Alexis Marie Scott, parents, brothers, nieces, nephews, all but one in-law, some grandchildren, a great-grandchild, and her precious friend Emogene Berry.

She is survived by Douglas White and siblings, Special nieces Deborah Winston, Anna (Leon) Adams & Charlesetta T. Pennington, Special nephews Jeffery (Charmayne) Binns, Dr, Steven (Heather) Binns Jr., Brian (Special friend Stephanie) Binns, Michael (Rene) Turner, Alden J. M. Lewis, Elijah Blaise Binns, a host of other nieces & nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchild and Special Friends Bridgette Wellington and Pat Foster.
