Dixie Lewis

August 31, 1958 — November 3, 2024

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Dixie Lee Lewis, who departed this world on Sunday, November 3rd, 2024, at the age of 66. Born on Sunday, August 31st, 1958, in Columbus, Ohio, Dixie lived a life rich in love, laughter, and commitment to her family and community.

Dixie Lee Lewis was born to Evelyn Drake and Charles Peter Lewis Sr. She was raised in the city of Columbus where she attended schools such as Kent Elementary, Rosevelt Jr High, and South High School. She later married Beecher Thomas and had two children. Dixie loved to dance and was very social and loved throughout the community. Being a giver she often provided meals to friends, family, and people around the neighborhood. She looked out for anyone in need. She was very caring and loving to all those that she met. Her love and her grace came from her love of God. She attended City of Zion Church. Dixie's love and kindness will always be remembered by those who love her.

Dixie's warmth and kindness touched the lives of many. Her family was her greatest joy, and her legacy lives on through her children, Erica (Jamie) Forrest, and Mario (Pudge) Lewis, and her special nieces and nephews, Deitra Cassell, Teaira Gamble, Charles Harrison, and Quincy Lewis. She is also survived by her ex-husband, Beecher (Cheryl) Thomas, and her siblings, Cindy Gamble, Charles Lewis, and Tyrone Lewis.

She leaves behind a family that admired her strength and resilience, as well as a community that will miss her generous spirit. Dixie was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Evelyn Drake and Charles Peter Lewis Sr.; her aunts, Delorse (James) Mitchell and Barbara Jean (Mondale) Haze; her sisters, Barbara (Cecil) Caldwell, Betty Edwards, Delorse (Robert) Wilbur, and Barbara (Charles) Lewis, and her brothers, Keenan (Trudy) Reese and David Drake. Her memory remains cherished by her nephews, Dante Gamble, Tom Edwards Jr., Harry Caldwell, and her niece, Savannah Sowell.
