Don Edward Moore

April 20, 1951 — July 31, 2021

Don E. Moore transitioned peacefully to his heavenly home on Saturday, July 31, 2021. He was born to the late Harry and Annie Moore Jr. in Gary, Indiana on April 20, 1951. He was a proud graduate of Froebel High School, class of 1969. He later earned his Bachelor's Degree from Ball State University, class of 1973. During his undergrad in 1971 he became a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc - Zeta Phi graduate chapter of Indianapolis. Later, he became a charter member of Upsilon Beta Chapter where he served as the first Social Chairman. He was also an active member of his local chapter, Eta Nu Nu Chapter of Columbus. Upon graduation from college Don moved to Columbus, Ohio where he married his wife of 37 years, Karen Moore. From this union, Sean Edward and Shannon LeAnn, were born. Don passionately worked for Columbus City Schools as an educator for nearly 40 years. During that time he coached football and girls track for 25 years. He spent the majority of his career at Linden Mckinley High School and was revered by his athletes and the Columbus coach community. Retirement couldn’t keep him away from doing what he loved. After coaching, he deeply enjoyed supporting Sean, Shannon and their friends as athletes and students. And shortly after retirement, he returned to the district to serve as a Family Ambassador at Scottwood Elementary, where his grandchildren attended at the time. Don lived a life of service and was a faithful member of the Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church. He served as deacon, president of the male chorus, coordinator of the annual church Christmas caroling, co-coordinator of the annual Community Day, and chair for the church picnic. He enjoyed serving communion and singing in the mass choir. Don also diligently served as a trustee with the Berwyn East Civic Association for 17 years. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by aunt and uncle Margaret (James Orlando) Thompson, Herbert (Clarice) Tyler; and cousin, Doris T. Stewart. He leaves to cherish his fond memories his beloved wife, Karen Moore; son, Sean (Tia) Moore; daughter, Shannon Moore; sibling, Billie (Evie) Moore, Gary, Indiana; parent-in-laws, John (Ledora) Johnson, sister-in-laws Sharon Fallins, Tasha Johnson; cousin, Sgt.
