Don Eugene Tate, age 76, of Columbus, Ohio transitioned peacefully, Monday surrounded by family at home.
He was born in Columbus, Ohio to Thelma and Don P. Tate. He grew up in Columbus and graduated from South High School in 1966.
Post high school he attended OSU for one year before being inducted into the United States Army. He served in the Army band and completed his BS degree at OSU after his return from Vietnam.
Don taught English until the affects of Agent Orange exposure caused health problems. He received an MA degree from OSU after his health improved.
He worked with the ESL program in Columbus City School until retirement.
During his retirement his passion for helping children over the bumps in life and playing guitar with local groups occupied most of his time.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thelma and Don P. Tate, and his brothers; Steven and Dana Tate.
Left behind to celebrate his life are his wife, Sharon Tate; children, Deidre Monique Tate, Varian M. Allen; extended family children, Kattrina Cade and Faye Derenoncourt; many nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors, and former coworkers.
Celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, June 26th, 2024 at Unity of Columbus, 4211 Maize Road, Columbus, Ohio 43224. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am and Funeral Services immediately following. Interment will be held the following day, Thursday, June 27th, 2024 at 9:00 am at the National Military Cemetery, Dayton, Ohio.
