Doris R. Wells, 81, born in Charleston, South Carolina, was called home to be with the Lord on September 18, 2012. Doris resided in Worthington, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sidney and Ruth (Ballard) Shorter; sisters, Elizabeth Barksdale and Naomi Shorter; brother, Sidney Shorter; son, Kenneth Higgins. She leaves to cherish her memory son, Steven (Charlissa) Wells; granddaughters, Chavala (Joshua) Tweedy and DelVonna Wells; great grandson, Jacob Tweedy; nieces, nephews and friends. Doris loved to laugh, listen to music, dance, and travel. She saw a lot of the world with her favorite travel partners, her brother Sidney and son Kenneth. She traveled to Australia, London, France, Hawaii and many other places. She retired after 30 years of services from Missions Hospital, Asheville, North Carolina, where she was a LPN in the Cardiac Unit. She was also an active member of the St. James AME Church in Asheville, NC for more than 30 years before moving to Alexandria, Virginia where she lived with son, Kenneth. Upon his passing, Doris came to live in Columbus to be close to Steven and received the utmost care for almost three years at The Laurels of Worthington Nursing Facility, Worthington, Ohio. Doris enjoyed being aunt to nieces and nephews: Gwendolyn Green, Brian (Deborah) Barksdale, Sheree (Edward) Simpson, Michael Shorter and Michelle Shorter.
