Dorothy Mae Cherry passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on December 29, 2024 at the age of 87. She was born to the late James and Willie Mae Hutcherson in Barnesville, Georgia on August 12, 1937.
At the age of 19, Dorothy moved from Georgia to Columbus, Ohio with her husband Lucious Cherry.
Dorothy’s first job was at the Neil House hotel. She then transitioned to Ohio Health working in sterile processing at Grant Hospital, ultimately retiring from Riverside Hospital. During and after her primary employment, Dorothy worked multiple part-time jobs; this fostered a sense of work ethic in her grandchildren by enlisting them to assist.
Dorothy lived a sold out life to Christ. She was saved and then served in multiple capacities at Emmanuel Tabernacle Baptist Church Apostolic Faith in Columbus, Ohio for over 50 years. She was the president of the usher board, nursing guild, and missionary board. Dorothy served as a deaconess, minister, Elder, and General Elder. She was also the National General Board of Mission President.
She was a choir member and often led devotion. She is known for her humming tone when singing. Some of her favorite songs were Bread of Heaven and By and By. She loved reading/studying the word, listening to preaching, cooking, shopping, and spending time with family/friends.
Dorothy was a testament to God’s love and grace. During her health decline, she experienced memory issues, however, she NEVER forgot how to worship. She constantly thanked God, stayed in prayer, spoke words into the lives of her family and visitors, and sang along to her favorite gospel songs.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Willie Mae Hutcherson; sisters Shane Martin, Mary Stinson, Anna Mae Stinson; brother J.T Hutcherson, James Hutcherson; son Lucious Cherry, Jr; daughter in love Tracey Smith-Cherry; grand daughter Tina Ingol; great grandson Josiah Montgomery.
