Dorothy Jean “Tootie” Taylor was born May 17, 1936 to Louis and Margaret Purdue, in Wheeling, West Virginia. Dorothy grew up as an only child in West Virginia and later raised her own 7 children in Baltimore, Maryland, with her then husband Billy Taylor, before obtaining a divorce and moving her family to Columbus, Ohio. While in Columbus, Ohio Dorothy took care of her children and earned a living as a Nurses Aid to support her family. Dorothy later met and married William Mitchell, where they shared a union together up until he predeceased her in death. Dorothy often visited and was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church of Columbus Ohio. In her spare time, Dorothy enjoyed dancing, reading, playing cards and shopping for dresses, fashionable jewelry and some of the most stylish hats you could find. Not a day went by that she didn’t receive a visit from her best friend Mr. Mitch for a cup of coffee and to enjoy conversations for hours about everything. Dorothy always said that no matter what, she could always count on her friend Mr. Mitch to be the highlight of her day. On Wednesday, August 14, 2019, Dorothy left this earth and gained her angel wings. Dorothy Jean “Tootie” Taylor was the perfect example of strength, tough love, family and leadership. Possibly one of the most honory and stubborn women we knew but through it all she taught us how to stand up for ourselves and fight for those things we wanted in life. The English Greek Origin name Dorothy means “Gift of God.” The life impact that Dorothy left on everyone who crossed her path in will forever be treasured as a blessed filled gift from God. Dorothy leaves to mourn: her 7 children, Fred Taylor (Liz Taylor), Lawrence Taylor, Anita Taylor, James Taylor, Karon Taylor and Sharon Taylor all of Columbus Ohio and Malik Kadir (Catrice Kadir) of Anaheim, CA, her Aunt Willie-Mae Black, a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren, along with many other relatives and friends. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents Louis and Margaret Purdue and husband William Mitchell.
