Dorothy Laverne Ferguson, was born on April 4, 1964, in Columbus, Ohio to Elizabeth Carol and Wilbert Patterson. On Monday, May 18, 2020, Dorothy, loving wife and mother of 4 children, passed away at age 56. Her husband, Frederick (Fred), would like you to know that he loved Dorothy with all his heart, and they were married on May 31, 2015. The morning of her death, they were spending time together planting her favorite purple flowers and plants. They both enjoyed their many walks through the Metro parks on the walking trails and taking hikes while taking in the sights of nature and having stress-free conversations. Fred says that Dorothy loved fishing, camping and spending time with her children and grandchildren. The backbone of Dorothy's conversations were the love and pride she had for her family. She was very proud of her 4 children and 15 grandchildren, and she looked for every opportunity to express her love to them. Her children want you to know that she was the life of the party and made everyone feel welcome and happy to be around her. They will miss her singing "You are my Sunshine" and her other favorite jam, "Always and Forever," and dancing around the house while popping her fingers to Aretha Franklin's song "RESPECT". She was like their personal bodyguard and on several occasions, others said they would hire her as their bodyguard as well. She could be rough and tough when needed, and she always made it known to each of her children and siblings that she was never afraid to whip their behinds no matter what age they are. She wouldn't hesitate to put you in your place if you got out of line. The children would like to express their gratitude for the life their mom gave to them. As a single parent, she worked hard and was a hard worker taking on various type of jobs over the years in order to provide and raise them. She made many sacrifices to make the best of things even when times were really hard. Her children are also thankful for the love and moments she shared with the grandchildren while she was living. Dorothy was a loving, caring, selfless person. She was very thoughtful to so many and always looked out for the interest and welfare of others, giving less thought to herself. She was easygoing, a very kind woman who would give you the shirt off her back if needed. She will be remembered for her laughter, her big infectious smile, and her kind and compassionate spirit. She will truly be missed by many. We all look forward to the day when God will wipe out every tear from our eyes and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be any more. The former things will have passed away. Revelation 21:4 Dorothy is preceded in death by her mother, Elizabeth Carol; her father, Wilbert; and her sister, Willette Michelle. She is survived by her husband Frederick Ferguson; children Brandon (Krista) Patterson, Jerry (Haley) Powell, Terry Powell, and Chelsea (Jay) Patterson; grandchildren Faith, Anthony, Ashton, Jacob, Kailyn, Elijah, Jordan, Ashlyn, Braylen, Ronnie, Victoria, Taeshawn, Hailey, Madison, and Jayden; brothers Thomas (Wancine) Winbush and Harvey (Ely) Winbush; sisters Alethea (Ejay) Jordan and Arnetta Harris; aunt Elvelyn (Ken) James; mother-in-law Pauline Ferguson; brothers-in-law, Kevin and Douglas Ferguson; sister-in-law Tina Ferguson; and a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, and dear friends.
