Dorothy Lena Battle was born on April 3, 1918 to the late Annie Laura Johnson Person and Alonzo (Jeff) Person. She departed this life and entered eternal rest at her residence on Wednesday, April 16, 2014. Dorothy accepted Christ at an early age and knew God was her sustainer. She continued to serve him until she was called home to be with the Lord. She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ of the Apostolic Faith. Dorothy's passion in life was her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great¬great-grandchildren along with other family members. She was a consummate wife, mother and caregiver who willingly sacrificed for anyone in need. Dorothy was a virtuous woman. (Proverbs 31:10-31) Dorothy retired from the Columbus Public School System and The Ohio State University Hospital. Dorothy (affectionately known as Grandmommy) leaves to cherish her memory, her children: Betty (James) Tucker, Thomas Isaac (RoseMarie) Caine III, Karen Battle, and Joyce (Michael) Link; her grandchildren: Thomas Isaac (Kim) Caine IV, Judy Hill, Mary Beth (Sam) Wilcox, Maria Jeffers, James (lola) Tucker Jr., Bruce (Camille) Wimbish II, Lakisha Johnson, Nicole Wimbish, Whitney (Hosea) Gibbs and Michael Link II; her great-grandchildren: Darryl Hill II, Britany Hill, Akia Scruggs, Steven (Leigh) Scruggs, Marquise Mays, Maya and Mica Caine, Quenton Jeffers, Jacquelyn Jeffers, Keiarra and Jaiden Davis, Kennedy Gibbs, Nixon Montgomery and Maia Wimbish; her great-great grandchildren: Kiryce Fitzgerald, Aubrey Scruggs, Carter Fitzgerald and Mehkia Scruggs and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of many years, William R. Battle; parents Annie Laura Johnson Person and Alonzo (Jeff) Person; brothers and sisters: Walter Person, Robert Person, Jasper Person Sr., Fannie Rogers, Leviticus Person, Virginia Neal, Willie Person, Viola Lewis and former husband Thomas Isaac Caine, Jr. The family of Dorothy L. Battle would like to thank everyone for their kindness extended during her illness and this time of bereavement. We gratefully appreciate the cards, phone calls, words of encouragement and prayers. Special thank you to Bishop Lundy and the church family, Columbus Fire Department - Station #15, and Zusman Community Hospice.
