Ms. Dorothy Martin was born on September 21st, 1943 in Doerun, Georgia to the late Major Martin Sr and Bertha Martin. She lived a long and fruitful life. She was loved and respected by many. She was a member of St. Mark AME Church in Columbus, Ohio for over 35 years, where Pastor Eugene Mitchell is Senior Pastor.
During her time in Columbus, Ohio, she worked for the Columbus City Schools for over 15 years where she later retired. After retirement she did volunteer work with several organizations throughout the City. At her Church St. she served in multiple roles throughout the years such as board of trustees, the fellowship committee, and as a missionary. During her free time Dorothy loved to cook, shop for clothes and jewelry, and spend time with family and friends. She also had a special collection of clowns.
After a period of illness God called Dorothy home on Thursday, March 14th, 2024.
Dorothy Martin was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Beatrice Martin, Geraldine Wheeler, Mattie Turner, Grace Smith, Adolphus Hill, L.C Slaughter, Charles Martin, Joseph Martin, and Harry Martin.
She leaves to cherish her memories son Ellis Martin (Patty), daughter Wendy Batts (James), son Dennis Martin (Camille) all of Columbus, Ohio. Siblings Edith Fields, Major Martin Jr, and William Martin. Special grandson Mondale Martin, and host of many grandchildren, great, great grandchildren, and great, great, great grandchildren. Special Cousins Gertherine McKinney, and Cherri Lightfoot. Special friends Justine Graham and Ms. Lawson.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am with a Funeral Service at 10:00 am at St. Mark AME Church in Columbus, Ohio. Burial will process to Evergreen Cemetery, Columbus, Ohio immediately following.
