Dorothy Mccrory

Dorothy McCrory was born March 28, 1932 in Manchester, Georgia to the late Julian and Georgia Lee McCrory. She relocated to Columbus, Ohio at age 19 where she made the Shepard neighborhood her home. Dorothy loved her family. She raised 8 children, several of her grandchildren and worked as a nursing assistant for many years at Good Shepard Nursing Home. Her home was always open, and she never turned away someone in need. She will be best remembered for her cooking, especially her sweet potato pies, greens, fried chicken, and macaroni and cheese. She loved fishing and if she wasn’t throwing a family gathering she could often be found on the banks of Hoover Dam or Buckeye Lake. Gardening was her passion and she loved her rose garden. She departed this life July 26, 2018 at the age of 86. She is preceded in death by siblings: Mary Perryman, Edward McCrory, Bessie Brown, Sammie McCrory, Laura Turner, Effie Lucille McCrory, Judy Dunn, and Barbara Peterson. Preceded in death by spouse Miles Davis, mother-in-law Mae Kendrick; children; Eric, Delores and Eliot Davis. She leaves to cherish her memory, children; Ernest (Janera), Edward, Douglas McCrory, Dorothy (T. Wayne, deceased) Gatewood, and Edith (Harvey) Richardson; grandchildren, Kia (Phillip) Merrifield, Julian Davis, Jeanine (Terrance) Hines, Wayne (Amanda) and Kerry Gatewood, Erika Davis, Le’Kisha Graham, Raneisha and Janell Prysock, Jordan Davis, Derek Swigart, Shaqualla Lindsey, Harvey Richardson III, Ernest, Madonna, Chelsea, Danielle, and Darren McCrory, Ashley Patate, Richie Johnson, and Yannie Childs. 28 Great-grandchildren; sisters, Gladys Campbell, Julia Moore and Gloria (Wiley) Harrison; brother, Frank McCrory; special cousin Mattie Daniel; friend Ernestine Hill and brother-in-law Jethro Kendrick; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
