Douglas Edward Mattison, Sr., age 68, passed away suddenly at home on August 5, 2013. He was born on December 8, 1944 to the late Gladyce Mattison in Columbus, Ohio. Employed for forty-three years at SafeLift (formerly Northway Transportation), Doug was a hardworker, always on time, and often working overtime. He was appreciated and respected by his peers and his customers. Prior to working at SafeLift, Doug worked as a driver for Pepsi-Cola. He also owned his own gasoline station in Northeast Columbus, for which he was featured in an article published by The Call and Post Newspaper. Doug enjoyed spending his free time at Scioto Downs, Wheeling Downs in Wheeling, WV, and Beulah Park Racing, as well as fishing and camping. He spent summer vacations with his children and grandchildren traveling to South Carolina, Six Flags, Sea World, and The Ohio State Fair. He also enjoyed spending time visiting with friends and family. Doug maintained his trademark sense of humor all the way to the end. Doug is survived by his children, Doug Jr., Ronald, Sherita, Carlisa, Michael, Selena, Lamonte, and Ryan; his brother Gary; his loving aunt Cecilia; numerous grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, along with countless other family and friends.
