Elsie Lucerne Ziglar, age 90, of Columbus, entered peaceably into eternal rest on Thursday, January 27, 2011, at home. Lucerne, as she was best known, was born on November 20, 1920 in Rome, Georgia, to the late Bowdree and Rosanna Barrett. She moved to Columbus in 1944 and met and married Odell Ziglar the following year. The couple had three sons and a daughter. Lucerne joined Gay Street Baptist Church and was active in numerous auxiliaries. She later became a founding member of Travelers’ Rest Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully until her death. Lucerne was employed as a day laborer and also worked in housekeeping at Lockbourne Air Force Base. She retired from the food service department at the Ohio State University. After her retirement, Lucerne served as a welcome receptionist at Park East Hospital for more than 10 years. She loved to travel and went on senior bus tours all around the country. In the 1980s.Lucerne began traveling with her children-----climbing the pyramids in Mexico, journeying by jeep through the jungles of Guatemala, lounging on the beaches of the Caribbean, and vacationing at resorts in the Midwest, South and Northeast. Lucerne was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Robert Barrett, and sister Elvira Williams. She is survived by her children: Kenneth Ziglar, Barrett Ziglar, Ferne Ziglar, and Vincent (Alicia) Ziglar; seven grandchildren: Bryant Ziglar, Christa Moore, Princess Ziglar, Vincent Jwon (Karleen) Ziglar, Viane Ziglar, and Jonathan Brown; eight great grandchildren; best friend Cora Prunty, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
