After a lengthy illness, Eddie Warner Jr., age 65, passed away peacefully at his home on June 30, 2021 with his loving wife by his side. Eddie Warner Jr. was born on November 16, 1955 in Jersey City, New Jersey and grew up in Columbus Ohio. Eddie was born to the late Eddie Warner Sr. and Doretha A. Warner. Eddie was nicknamed “Junie” by most of his family. Eddie attended South High School and upon graduating went to work at the Ohio Department of Taxation where he retired after 35 years of service. While there, he met the love of his life, Lavonia (Cliff) Warner. They later married on May 17, 1975. Shortly after their marriage he enlisted in the Army Reserve and later joined the National Guard where he served for 21 years. Eddie was a devout member of St. Philip Evangelical Lutheran Church for over 30 years; participating in the Men in Mission auxiliary, in which he served as treasurer. Eddie also served the church by volunteering for several activities – from assisting with the food pantry, to singing in the men’s choir. He was an active community member and was involved in supporting the Meals Ministry for the Special Population, as well as supporting the Urban Strings Columbus. Eddie always stepped up to the plate when needed and truly enjoyed serving others. Despite his long battle with cancer (among other serious illnesses), Eddie continued to passionately serve his church, family, and friends, even during his last days; which serves as a true testament to his strength and his faith in God. In addition to spending time with his family and friends, Eddie was an absolute sports fanatic. He was a die-hard Michigan Wolverines and Seattle Seahawks fan, as well as a lifelong LA Laker’s fan. Among his many interests, he loved to travel, attend concerts, go to the movies, and dine out with his family and friends. Eddie was preceded in death by his parents Eddie and Doretha Warner Sr. and nephew, Rickey (Rick Rick) Garrison. His memories are cherished and kept alive by his loving wife of 46 years, Lavonia Warner; daughter, Shereasa Lynnette Warner; granddaughter, Shalisa Ranell Warner, whom he and his wife raised; granddaughter, Lavaya Nicole Coleman; three sisters, Linda (William) Fralin of Randelman, North Carolina, Dorothea Warner, Tina (Tim) Alston; two brothers, Rickey (Kayla) Warner, and William Warner all of whom are from Columbus, Ohio; sister-in-law, Danette (Charles) Graham; Godson/nephew, Desmond Polk; and loyal nephew, William Porter. Eddie will also be forever remembered by his nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives and “special” friends. Eddie was a good man, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, loving brother-in-law, uncle, and a special friend. He touched many lives with his generosity and passion for life, and his constant dedication to helping others. Eddie will be deeply missed by his family and friends. People called on Eddie for advice, an ear to listen, or a shoulder to cry on. He always spoke what was on his mind and did not hold back his opinions; being straight to the point with you no matter what. He was fond of the phrase, “It is, what it is!”
