Edward Needum Sr

June 7, 1926 — September 28, 2012

Edward M. Needum, Sr. was born June 7, 1926 to Samuel Needum and Maggie Fitcher Needum in Baltimore, Maryland. Edward served in the United States Army Air Force and was honorably discharged at the rank of Corporal in 1948. Earlier that same year, on March 8, Edward was united in holy matrimony to the former Nellie Mae Cason to whom he remained married for 64 years. He worked for Buckeye Steel and Federal Glass. A member of Laborers' International Union of North America Local #423 since 1966, Edward was last employed by Borean Cement Contractors. His favorite sport was golf. He enjoyed golf to the fullest and played every Saturday morning at Blacklick Woods Golf Course. He also enjoyed cooking, gardening, carpentry, debating, and especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Edward was a great provider for his family. He taught them that a good education was their top priority. He also taught his children good survival skills to take with them out into the world. On Friday, September 28, 2012, at the age of 86, Edward peacefully departed this life at McNaughten Pointe Care Center in Columbus, Ohio. Along with his parents, Edward was predeceased by a daughter Arsonia Needum, two sons Fredrick Needum and Michael Gwinn, grandsons Lavar Needum and Jayson Gwinn, sisters, Margaret Speaks, Virginia Gray, Gertrude Needum, Eleanor Dunn, and Mabel Welbourne, and brothers, Irving Needum, Joseph Needum, William Needum, and Gardner Needum.
