Edwin B. 'Eddy' Hogan

Edwin Brockton “Ed” Hogan returned home to the arms of his blessed Savior on June 20, 2016, at age 75. He was born on September 2, 1940, in Cleveland, Ohio, the youngest of nine children to Helen and Lonnie Hogan. In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his son, Ricky; and his siblings, Lonnie Jr., June, Merton, Nancy, Paul, Elizabeth and Carl. Ed is survived by his wife, Letitia “Tish”; and children, Edwina (Anthony), Bryan, Kurt, Bryanna and sister, Patricia. He also leaves grandchildren, Doria, Olivia, Sydney, Cecilia, Isabella, Aaleigha, Alex, Martin, LaRance, Bryan Jr., Victor, Christian along with many nieces, nephews and friends. When Ed was in his teenage years, the family relocated to Compton, California. After high school, he later served his country in the U. S. Air Force in Albuquerque, N. M. and received “top secret” clearance. Recognized as one of the few experienced and skillful African American lobbyists who affected regulatory, legislative, and executive laws on behalf of clients, Ed's tradition of excellence in government relations spanned more than 30 years. His lobbying career began at The Success Group, Inc. in Columbus, where he served as Senior Lobbyist, Legislative Specialist and Vice President of Government Affairs. In 1996, Ed followed his passion to assist minority businesses needing legislative counsel and founded New Visions Group (NVG) in Columbus. Today, as the State’s oldest minority lobbying firm, NVG continues to accomplish Ed’s visionary goal of providing high quality, ethical lobbying services to connect business and government. In 2014, Ed saw the opportunity to move his vision for NVG forward while allowing time for the most important thing in his life – his family, by passing the day-to-day leadership of the firm to long-time partner Derrick R. Clay. However, Ed continued on as senior advisor, providing valuable insight, counsel and connections for NVG clients until his passing. One of the many contributions Ed made to our community was the establishment of the Trailblazer of the Year Award given by New Visions Group to recognize an individual who has made outstanding contributions to the community through their profession, service to the community or civic involvement. Past recipients of the award include Ohio Congresswoman Joyce Beatty and former Columbus Mayor Michael B. Coleman. In 2014, the firm chose to honor the accomplishments Ed made in his career and surprised him by presenting the award to him. Over the course of his career, Ed received many accolades, awards, and commendations, including the Golden Rule Award from Columbus Public Schools. Ed was a compassionate community volunteer and an advocate and mentor for young African Americans. He believed in sharing his gifts for leadership and served many organizations in the Central Ohio community including his church, New Salem Missionary Baptist Church, in many ways. He was board chair of the Columbus Metropolitan Area Community Action Organization (CMACO), now known as IMPACT Community Action, and served on the Boards of Trustees or as a volunteer to a number of local organizations, including Maryhaven, Alvis House, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Ballet Met, and Columbus Cancer Research Associates. Ed's greatest joy was spending quality time with family and friends. He enjoyed building memorable adventures with his grandchildren such as; boating, camping, sporting events, RV trips to family reunions and out of state high school graduations. Most of all when Ed accepted Jesus Christ as His Lord Savior, he was All In, living his life and purpose to spend eternity with Him.
