Edwin E. Flippo was born in Queens, New York, on May 14, 1951. He attended Forest Hills High School, The Juilliard School, and Pace University. While in New York, he worked on Wall Street and for the commercial airline, US Airways. He left New York City to live in Atlanta for just a short while. Then, in 1993, Edwin decided to relocate and make Columbus, Ohio his home. During Edwin’s years in Columbus, he worked as a Supervisor at The Hyatt and at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Edwin was a member of the NAACP and an associate member of the National Council of Negro Women and always actively participated and served his community well. Before his battle with his health began, Edwin was enrolled at the Bradford School to become a Medical Assistant. Edwin loved music, especially classical and opera. He was an outstanding musician and singer. As a young man, he played the organ for his church. In Columbus, he enjoyed singing in the Men's Chorus in his beloved church, Faith Ministries. He loved to travel and made friends in every city he touched. Edwin also loved spending time with his family. He truly cherished cook outs and Sunday dinner. Class and prestige was a badge of honor for Edwin. He prided himself in enjoying the best that life had to offer. God was the foundation of his existence and underlined every aspect of his life. Edwin departed this life on Friday, August 9, 2013. He knew his transition had come and welcomed it with joy. Edwin was preceded in death by his grandfather whom he loved and adored, Walter Moreland, and his parents, Ruth and Joseph Flippo. He leaves to cherish his memories, brothers, Charles E. Hazell, III of Blacklick, Ohio, Joseph Flippo of New York, New York, Alfred Hazel of Bronx, New York, Julius Edinboro of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and his brother in Christ, Vonley Gaines of Columbus, Ohio; his twin sister Edwina Flippo of Bronx, New York, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
