Eleanor Jane Tyler was born March 6, 1922 in Columbus, Ohio. She accepted Christ at an early age and has been a member of Trinity Baptist Church for over fifty years. Eleanor attended East High School and graduated with honors from Central Evening High School. A housewife and a mother of four children, Eleanor Tyler loved her family and was very attentive to their needs. After caring for her family full time for thirteen years, Eleanor began a career at DCSC/DSAC while also attending The Ohio State University. She retired after 28 years of federal service and then attended Columbus State Community College. She later worked as a tax professional with HR Block for ten years. Eleanor finished raising three of her grandsons after the untimely death of their mother and her daughter, Jacalyn. She loved and nurtured her grandsons, made sure they finished high school, and encouraged them to go to college. Family meant the world to Eleanor and attending the family reunions was a must – she did not miss one. She was an active participant in several senior centers around Columbus and served as treasurer of the Senior Council at the Marion-Franklin Multi-Generational Center. She enjoyed aerobics, line dancing, and belonged to several card playing groups. During her more active years, Eleanor was an avid bowler. She was the captain of two bowling teams and made sure that each grandchild learned how to bowl. She was also a member of the Scioto Investment Club, in which she held the position of President and Vice President for several years. Eleanor J. Tyler passed away Monday, December 30, 2013. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lucius Lee Tyler, her parents, Robie and Embrey Harris, daughter Jacalyn Tyler Scott, son Melvin Tyler, granddaughter Morrisa Tyler, sisters Addie Flemister and Lillie Roy, and brothers Embrey Harris and Rolland Harris. Left to cherish many wonderful memories of Eleanor, are her daughters Norma J. Whittington and Brenda D. Brown; sisters Delores (Robert) Lewis and Hattie Merrill; brothers Dezzie (Bessie) Harris and Nathaniel Harris; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild (born December 25, 2013), which made five living generations; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
