Elroy Turner was born May 7, 1936 to Clinton L. Turner and Julia Mae Dawson Turner in Columbus, Ohio. His mother passed away in 1937 and he was raised by his grandparents, Jessie and Annie Mae Price. Elroy later went to live with his father and attended Columbus Public Schools. In his early years, Elroy worked for his dad's company, C. Turner's Refuse. He later worked for Buckeye Steel, Sears, and as a groundskeeper at Cooper Stadium and Huntington Park. Elroy loved pitching horseshoes, bowling, fishing, and was a frequent visitor to the casino. He was the life of the party and a joy to be around. He always kept everyone laughing even in his time of sickness. On Tuesday, September 23, 2014, at the age of 78, Elroy was called home to be with the Lord. In addition to his parents, Elroy was preceded in death by two wives, Doris Jean Turner and Loretta Turner, daughter Beverly Johnson, and brother Kenny Harmon. He leaves behind so many people who love him, including his children, Elroy Turner, Jr. (Sheila), Victoria Sykes, Raphael Turner, Kevin (Veneca) Turner, Shana Ward, Doreatha Turner, and Tempie Turner; stepmother Mattie Turner; siblings, Joann Person, Mary Lewis, and Charles Warren; aunt Inez (Solomon) Harris; special companion, Rena Powers; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. He will be greatly missed by all.
