Born February 2, 1922 in Cleveland, Ohio; the eldest of three children born to the union of the late Mattie Virginia Workman and William Harold Workman. Emily is survived by her brother, W. Emily remained in Cleveland all of her life, retiring from General Motors Fisher Body Division in January, 1975 after 30½ years of service. During that time, she received GM’s Highest Award, The Award of Excellence in Community Activities, in June of 1971 for which she was recognized across the country. Emily dedicated her life to serving others. She was inducted into The Karamu House’s Hall of Fame after 50 years of service, in a ceremony that took place in September of 2007. In June of 1998, Emily was recognized for her contributions to Karamu House, with her own day of recognition held in the Jelliffe Theatre. She also received resolutions from City Council of Cleveland, The County Commissioners, proclamations from Mayor Michael R. White, Congressman Louis Stokes and ultimately a letter from President Bill Clinton and his wife, Hillary, thanking her personally for all of her selfless contributions including to the White House Council on Aging. This list goes on and on and we all wish to thank her. As Emily spent the last 2½ years at Manor Care Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Westerville, OH., the family wishes to thank the management and staff for all of their love and care. She has left us now to join her loving son, Richard, and a host of loving friends. “You will be missed by us all.” Service: At the convenience of the family Columbus, OH
