Ernest B. Hale, age 74, passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at Mt. Carmel East. He was born on May 1, 1938 to Clara Lindsey Hale and Marshall Hale in Maxmeadows, Virginia. As children, he and his younger sister, Linda, were inseparable as playmates. He developed a love for baseball and discovered his passion for the game at a tender age. Ernie was a great baseball player and used to cut school to play the game. He was just 14 years old when he joined the workforce and for more than sixty years, Ernie was a very dedicated and hard worker. He was a longtime, skilled plasterer and later worked as a machine operator for Funk Finecast before he finally retired two years ago. He was a consummate workaholic, but always made time to spend with his family. Ernie was affectionately known as Pops by his loved ones and dear friends. Ernie was preceded in death by both parents, as well as his wife Billie Jean Cavell, son Ernest M. Hale, brothers, Melvin (Katherine), Lewis (Vermabel), Clarence Hale, and Clayborne Hale, sisters, Lottie (George) Shaffer, Bessie Hale, and Marie (Guy) Taylor, father-in-law Joseph Brown, and brothers-in-law Thomas Taylor and Jimmy Young. He is survived by his longtime love and companion, Hazel Wallace; sons, Reginald Cavell, Mark Cavell, and Dontrell Brown; daughter Katisha Brown; brothers William (Marie) Hale and Frank Hale, Sr.; sister Linda Hale; mother-in-law Doris Brown of Houma, LA; sisters-in-law, Marsha (William) Sept of Baker, LA, Gail Taylor of Houma, LA, Doris Young of Nashua, NH, and Martha Brown; brothers-in-law, James Melvin and Joseph Brown of Houma, LA; a host of other relatives and friends.
