Ervin Miller Tatum transitioned peacefully at Mount Carmel East Hospital on December 27, 2014, at the age of 86, surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 17, 1928 in Bay Springs, Mississippi to Ruben and Lula Belle Tatum. Ervin worked for many years at Coady Construction Company where he helped to pour concrete over the streets of Columbus. He retired after 35 years of service. After retiring, Ervin spent many years (up until the summer of 2014) working and supervising his own business, Tatum’s Concrete, where he loved to mentor his family’s youth by teaching them a positive and lucrative trade. Ervin was a faithful member of Triedstone Missionary Baptist Church for many years where he served on the Deacon Board. Ervin is proceeded in death by his parents, Ruben and Lula Belle Tatum; wives, Hattie Ruth Tatum and Betty Jo Tatum, son, Willie Lee Tatum, siblings, Clarence Tatum, Leon Tatum, Wren Tatum, Solomon Tatum, Clemon Tatum, Ruben Tatum, Beatrice Tatum, Pearly Tatum, Sally Tatum, Naiome Tatum and Easter Williams. Ervin is survived by his sons, Willie B. Tatum, Robert E. (Helen) Tatum, and Floyd Tatum; daughter, Lapina Tatum; stepson Marvin E. Stanback and stepdaughter Elizabeth A. Stanback, all of Columbus, Ohio. Ervin had 21 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
