Ethel Mae Comer, “Sugar”, age 97, passed away May 31, 2017 at her Columbus, OH residence. Born March 11, 1920 in Monticello, GA, where she attended Jasper County Training School. She married Ruben Comer on July 26, 1941, and worked as a domestic in private homes after moving to Columbus in 1952. She loved gardening and was a faithful member of The Word Outreach Evangelistic Ministries where she actively participated until her passing. Predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Ruben, sons, Donald B., Reuben D., and Richard W. Comer, parents David and Ethel Catchings, brother Willie Dave Catchings, sister Gracie Mae Clark, sister-in-law Mary Pankey, and great grandson Quran D. Comer. Survived by her children, Barbara Delaney, Hazel Comer, and Rose (Steven) Squires; foster daughter Evelyn Frierson; 13 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
