Eugene Kitrell Winfrey, Sr. was born July 11, 1950 to Rev. Paul H. Winfrey and Narvie Johnson Winfrey in Tazewell, Virginia. He departed this earthly life on Thursday, July 28, 2011 at his Columbus residence. He graduated from Tazewell High School and was a member of Missionary Baptist Church. For the past 42 years, Eugene has been a resident of Columbus, Ohio, where he was a 20-year employee of Crane Plastics and honorably served his country as a serviceman with the United States Army Reserves. He loved playing horseshoes, gardening, and fishing. More affectionately known by his family and friends as Kit or Geno, he will be truly missed but will always remain in the hearts of those who loved him. Geno's parents, and granddaughter Ivory Marie Woods preceded him in death. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 32 years Karen Jackson Winfrey; sons, Eric, Dante (Tara), and Eugene Winfrey, Jr.; loving daughter Ebony; brothers, Paul H. Winfrey, Jr. of Tazewell, Virginia, Alonzo L. (Essie) Winfrey of Columbus, Ohio, and David D. Winfrey of Tazewell, Virginia; sisters, Narvie L. West of Denver, Colorado, Evangelist Rowena L. Winfrey-Hairston (Bishop Donnie Hairston) of Tazewell, Virginia, Aletha J. Bland of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Susan Roberts of Columbus, Ohio; six granddaughters, Chante, Shayla, Tayeisha, Unique, Zyhan, Alasia, and one grandson Isaiah; a host of sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends.
