Evelyn Bernice Williams Clark was born September 28, 1926 to Mr. Edwin Williams and Mrs. Beatrice Williams while the family resided in Ogden, Utah. Evelyn had a sister, Dorothy, and later a younger brother named Edwin, Jr. Edwin Jr. passed away while still an infant.
The family moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma when Evelyn was in elementary school, and she graduated from Douglass High School in that same city. After high school Evelyn attended Fisk University where she graduated with a major in Sociology and a minor in Psychology. She then received a Master of Science Degree from the Atlanta University School of Social Work.
A short time later Evelyn moved to Columbus, Ohio to work as a social worker at Family and Children’s Bureau. She spent most of her working career in counseling and adoptions at this agency, which had some name changes and mergers and was later called Crittenton Family Services. It later merged with Directions for Youth and is now called Directions for Youth and Families. In the middle of her career, Evelyn spent a year and a half in Cleveland, Ohio working at the Family Clinic of University Hospitals. She returned to Columbus to marry Attorney John T. Clark, Jr. She described it as a congenial, loving marriage that lasted until he passed in 1984.
Evelyn has been a faithful member of Second Baptist Church for over 60 years. She is a member of the Second Baptist Church Anna Circle, and she dearly loved her church and her church circle sisters. Evelyn is a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She was a charter member of The Elegants Club and was a member of the Esse Quam Videri Club.
Evelyn departed this life peacefully on February 5, 2025. She was predeceased by her parents, Bernice and Edwin Williams, her brother Edwin, Jr., her sister, Dorothy Barbara Bickham, and her husband, John T. Clark, Jr. She was also predeceased by a very special friend, Major Herndon N. Cummings. She leaves to mourn her nephew, Luzine B. Bickham, Jr. (Mary) from Norco, LA; her niece, Nedra Eileen Bickham from Uppsala, Sweden, and several grandnephews, great grandnephews, great grandnieces, cousins, and other relatives. Evelyn was a kind person with a sweet, sweet spirit. She will be truly missed by her family, numerous friends within her church family and her community.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 18th, 2025 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am with a Funeral Service immediately following at Second Baptist Church 186 North 17th Street, Columbus, Ohio 43203. Family will meet following the service at Glen Rest Memorial Estate for internment.
