Florence Lee Foreman was born on September 19, 1933, in Talladega, Alabama, to Titus Foreman and Inez Easley Foreman. When Florence was a young girl, her mother passed away and her father later remarried Velma L. Turner. Together, they raised Florence and her sisters. Florence was educated in the Talladega County School System and her aspirations were to become an attorney. She relocated to California for several years and later moved to Columbus, Ohio, where she established her permanent residence. Prior to her retirement, Florence was employed by the T. Marzetti Company, the salad dressing manufacturer, and she also worked at Ross Labs, a division of Abbott Laboratories. Her hobbies included gardening, cooking, and bowling. She was a longtime, active member of Greater Twelfth Baptist Church, where she served on the Deacon, Usher, and Missionary Boards, and taught Sunday School until her health declined. Florence had a passion for children and, for fifteen years, she opened her home and provided loving care to numerous foster children, one who she raised as her own. Florence departed this earthly life on Thursday, June 13, 2013 at Friendship Village of Columbus. Left to cherish memories of Florence are her loving daughters, Gwendolyn (Michael) Birdsong of Atlanta, Georgia and Sheila (Andre) Dean of Columbus, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Montia, Desarine, Ernest (“EJ”), Monique, Gabrielle, Justin, and Diana; sisters, Ann Freeman of Atlanta, Georgia and Rebecca (Charles) Williams of Battle Creek, Michigan; beloved niece, Deborah (Joseph) Sowell of Columbus, Ohio; Terry Smith, who she raised; two beloved nephews, Stefan and Shawn; and a host of nieces, nephews, foster children, other relatives and friends, including her Greater Twelfth Baptist Church family.
