Florida Mae Cain, affectionately known as “Mama Cain” aged 75, gazed upon her last sunset March 24, 2024.
She was born on May 11, 1948, in Little Rock, Arkansas to Woodsell Harris and Mayetta “Palmer” Harris.
She lost her mother at a young age and was raised by her Aunt Gert Thomas and Papa Charlie Palmer. Florida was a talented writer. She had a passion for writing books and songs as a young girl. She met Charlie Richard Cain who soon became her high school sweetheart. Cousin T would often write notes to Florida from Charlie to help Charlie win her heart. The two soon fell in love and were married in 1966 .
They started a family, first child Charlie Jr. then Eric. Three years later they relocated to Columbus, Ohio seeking a new opportunity and once again became the proud parents of two more children, Sharon and Bryant. Florida loved her homemaker role and enjoyed raising her young family while Charlie worked at Buckeye Steel and OSU Hospital.
Florida went to work at Grossmans and the United States Postal Service and political pose, Florida Mae accepted Jesus Christ in her life at young age, she sang in the church choir at the Powerhouse of God Apostolic Faith, Florida raised her children in church. Later Mama Cain became a Praise and Worship leader.
Many who knew her can say that Mama Cain never met a stranger and was loved in the community.
She was a like a second Mom to numerous kids in the neighborhood and didn’t mind lovingly letting you know that no matter what you were doing, she was praying for you and put the blood of Jesus on you wherever you may travel in your journey. She, along with Charlie Sr. often fed strangers and those of whom she loved. She would give her last to those in need.
She loved cooking and was a great cook often telling others that “their meal wasn’t hitting on nothing” she enjoyed shopping with “Niecy” and watching her beloved Christian shows on tv. Mama Florida was a proud family historian who could tell you about every family milestone and event right down to the smallest of details.
