Frances Louise Smith “Fannie” a loving and devoted mother and caring friend to many was born in Asheville, North Carolina on January 13th, 1932 and relocated to Columbus, Ohio in 1955 where she departed on February 4th, 2012. Frances was devoted to family and she was a loving and caring mother, nana, sister, and second mom to her nieces and nephews. She loved traveling and natural pastimes, including gardening, fishing, and bird watching, where she found peace and solace. She was always selfless and generous with others. A devoted member of St. Dominic Catholic Church for more than 50 years, Frances served with the Altar Rosary Society and the Eucharistic Ministry. Frances was a retiree of the Defense Supply Center Columbus (DSCC) where she was employed for over 30 years, and also served as a decorated Sergeant in the U.S. Army. Frances is survived by her daughter and friend Shari Johnson (Emile) of Buffalo Grove, IL, son Derrick of Columbus, sister and best friend forever Daisy Jones of Columbus, dear sisters Harriet Danner and Gloria Glenn of Asheville NC, and Alice Adams of Jacksonville, FL, devoted brothers Larry and George Wilson of Columbus, three loving grandchildren Derrick Jr. “DJ”, Andrew, and Caitlin; 2 great-grandchildren, devoted niece and nephews Lisa, John Jr., and Kevin; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
