Frank Abram Cody was born April 15, 1934 to Robert and Anna Cody in Columbus, Ohio. He attended East High School, but left school early to help take care of his family. He had a job working with his brother, Willie, as a paper boy, and then obtained a position at Children’s Hospital. Frank received his GED later in his adult life. After his honorable discharge from the United States Army, Frank returned home to Columbus where he married the beautiful Shirley Stribling Cody. They both gave their lives to the Lord and joined Mt. Vernon Avenue African Methodist Episcopal Church. To their union, three daughters were born. Frank then worked at Dan Ryan Ford, Wymam Pump, and retired from Columbus City Schools after 35 years of dedicated service. Frank loved the Lord and adored his family. A very faithful and active Mt. Vernon AME church member for many years, Frank loved participating with the Usher Board, Dance Ministry, Drama Ministry, and Security Team. Outside of church, he shared his love of singing, dancing, and acting by taking part in programs at The Neighborhood House and would often sing for the students who attended the school where he worked. He also enjoyed marching with his fellow VFW post members, spending time with relatives while attending Myrick Family Reunions, cheering on his Cleveland Browns football team, and taking family trips in the motor home. Frank lived life well and never met a stranger. On Sunday, October 29, 2017, Frank Abram Cody was called Home to be with his Savior. In addition to his beloved wife and parents, Frank was preceded in death by his brothers, Roger, Alfred, Robert, Rony, and Willie Cody, and sisters, Jeanette Lloyd, Gladys Bar, and Dorothy Young Cody. Those who remain to cherish memories of Frank include his three loving daughters, Denise Cody, Therese Cody, and Shireta Cody; honorary daughter Jennifer Barnette; honorary son Harry Lloyd; grandchildren, Chris Jones and Destini Jones; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
