Frank Watson Jr., fondly referred to as “Frankie,” entered this world on Sunday, January 3, 1954. He was the second of six children born to the union of JoAnn Ford and Frank Watson, Sr. Frankie received his formal education from Columbus City Schools and was a 1972 graduate of Linden McKinley High School where he played football. Always with a smile and eager to make his mark in this world, Frankie relocated to Berkley, California where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science. Frankie developed a passion for politics. With an adventurous spirit and a zest for life, he set forth to conquer the world. Frankie was employed as a page and lobbyist for Congressman Ronald V. Dellums, U.S. House of Representatives, California’s 9th Congressional District. Frankie loved to tell anyone and everyone that would listen, about “His Days” in the White House. It was his joy to share his Washington experiences. Frankie moved to Detroit, Michigan and also worked with the Honorable Rev. Jesse Jackson. He boasted, with such pride, of how he dined with Aretha Franklin. In addition to his political work, Frankie authored a comic strip entitled, “Home Boyz.” Those who knew Frankie, knew of his charismatic style, infectious spirit, and those dimples. He was an impeccable dresser and quite a ladies’ man. Frankie had a love of sports of all kinds. He was known as the “armchair quarterback.” Frankie would always share his thoughts on how to make ‘your thing’ bigger, better, and brighter. This is who he was: a giver, an optimist, and a person with A HEART OF GOLD. Whether you asked for it or not, if you had an ear, he had an opinion. That was FRANKIE . . . A BRIGHT AND SHINING STAR. After a brief illness, Frankie was called from labor to eternal rest on Sunday, April 11, 2021. He was sixty-seven years of age. He was preceded in death by his parents, JoAnn and Frank Watson, Sr. and his sister, Darlene Watson. He leaves to mourn his memory his sisters, Jacqueline Watson-Dennis of Maple Heights, Ohio, Crystal Watson-James of Jonesboro, Georgia, and Bobbie Lynn Watson of Columbus, Ohio; brother, Sylvester (Felicia) Watson of Columbus, Ohio; cherished aunt, Doris Jean (Rodger Jr.) Brown; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. Frankie’s death is the last chapter in time, but the first chapter in eternity. A thousand words won’t bring you back. We know because we’ve tried. Neither will a thousand tears. We know because we’ve cried. REST IN PEACE BIG BROTHER.
