Fred Evans, Jr., age 77, departed this life Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Whetstone Gardens Care Center. Born March 1, 1936, in Bryan, Texas, he attended Kemp High School (Bryan, TX) and was a graduate of Worthington High School where he was a member of the Cross Country Track Team. A veteran of the United States Army, Fred attended The Ohio State University and, in 1962 and 1966, he earned certifications in Computer Programming from the Machine Accountants Training Association (MATA). After 35 years of dedicated service, Fred retired from Bank One, where he was employed as a Computer Operator in Financial Card Services. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church for 61 years and served on the Board of Deacons for 42 years, during which time he held the position of Treasurer. Predeceased by parents, Fred and Elizabeth Evans, and sister Ruby Seward. Survived by his loving and devoted wife of 49 years, Iola; son Timothy (Tabitha); grandchildren, Dominic, Cherrokeye, Tylan, Julia and Nadia; brothers, Howard and James; sisters, Helen and Rebecca; former daughter-in-law, Latasha Martin; brothers-in-law, Rev. James (Dorothy), Rev. Sherman (Rev. Mary) and John (Agnes) Thomas; sisters-in-law, Linda (Clay) Jones, Barbara (Edward) Simpson, Dora, Alma and Leola Thomas, all from Montpelier, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends from Columbus, Bryan and Virginia. Contributions may be made in the name of Fred Evans, Jr. to the American Cancer Society, or the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
