Fred G. Meador, transcended unto the Lord at his home in Columbus, OH surrounded by his family on Wednesday, December 5, 2018. He was born on June 8, 1927 in Union, South Carolina to Mexico and Ada (Dawkins) Meador. He was preceded in death by his wife Lorraine L (Duff) Meador of 38 years, sisters: Lillie Mae Gist, Thelma Gist, Nell B. Jackson, brothers: John F. Meador, Stanley Meador, and Walter “Bill” Meador. Fred attended Union County Schools and served in the United States Army in Fort Hood, Texas. He later moved to Columbus, OH where he met his wife Lorraine. Fred worked his entire life to instill in his children and grandchildren love, leadership, and legacy. For over 35 years he worked for Norfolk and Southern Railroad until retiring in 1989. Fred accepted Christ at a young age in Union, SC. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and later joined New Salem Baptist Church until his passing. He volunteered in New Salem’s food pantry until his health started to fail. Fred was the patriarch of the Meador, Gist, Dawkins, Foote family. Affectionately known as “Uncle Gee”, he was an avid chef, famous for his barbeque ribs and fried chicken. He loved fishing, football, (especially Ohio State), baseball, basketball, and golf. He had a tremendous love for Blues music. Fred leaves to cherish his memory to his children and grandchildren he loved so much: Sandra Meador-Winchester, Reynoldsburg, OH, Karen “Linda” Meador, Gahanna, OH and Mark (Jennifer) Meador, Westerville, OH: grandchildren Promise Joy Winchester, Raleigh, NC, Jordan M. Helton (Bryant Helton Jr), Garfield Hts., OH, Joshua J. Winchester, Hope L. Winchester, McKenzie L. Meador, Payton N. Meador, Mark A. Meador II, and Kennedy R. Meador; great grandson Bryant Helton III. sisters-in-law, Cora Stiles, Mattie Greenwood, Jewell Duff, Cynthia Montgomery, brother-in-law John Duff, of Los Angeles, CA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
