FREDERICK J. YATES, JR, 63, passed away July 15, 2012. Fred was born August 7, 1948 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Frederick J. Yates, Sr. and Mary Yates. Fred was a veteran of the U. S. Army where he served 11 years active duty and completed two tours in Vietnam. He graduated from The Ohio State University with a B.A in Journalism and the Gospel Lighthouse School of Ministry. Fred, also lovingly known as “Butch” has lived in Columbus for 36 years but “home” was always Cleveland. He loved being a Glenville Tarblooder and was a lifetime Cleveland Browns fan. He was a devout christian and member of Rhema Christian Center. Fred was always inspired and movtivated to share His word and his love of God. Fred held many positions over the years; he had the honor of serving as the first African American Message Clerk in the Ohio Senate. He most recently he was the Director of the Equal Business Opportunity Commission with the City of Columbus. His first love was public relations which lead him to start JYC Communications. There was not a person who met Fred that did not love and respect him. Left to cherish his memory is the love of his life and high school sweetheart of 42 ½ years, Sondra; children, Adrienne and Frederick, III; mother Mary Yates Malone; mother in law, E. Louise Horton- Moore grandchildren Anthony James, Jaeda Marie and Jaelee Rose; siblings, Carolyn Yates Salami (Abdul), Marsha Yates Jackson (Ulysses), Michael F. Yates, Sr. (Darlene); Aunt Sharon Gorman Bremer (Charles); nephews, Michael, II and Martin and best friend Larry Price.
