George Ann Tatum

March 11, 1948 — December 3, 2017

George Ann (Anna) Tatum was born March 11, 1948 in Canton, OH to George A. Moore and Clementine W. Oliver-Moore. As a teenager she lived in Germany and Lawton, OK where she graduated high school. She moved back to Canton, then to California, and eventually back to Ohio (Columbus). She was an administrative clerk for the City of Columbus, Refuse Collection for many years. She was an avid bowler for over 40 years where she served in various administrative roles and achieved many bowling accomplishments and accolades. She will be remembered for being very outspoken with a bossy and sassy personality. She often placed the needs of others before her own and she instilled this same quality in her daughters. Throughout her lifetime she was a caregiver for many friends and family. Because of her loving and nurturing spirit she was often referred to as Mom, Mama, or Granny by all that knew and loved her. George Ann was a loyal, devoted, faithful servant to the Lord. She had a passion for serving in her community and church. While living in Canton, OH she attended James S. Thomas United Methodist Church where she led the Seniors Ministry, Food Bank, Voter Registration, Kitchen Committee, Fun Raiser Committee and Transportation Committee. Most recently as a member of Second Shiloh Baptist Church she was a teacher in the Children’s Ministry and participated in the Women’s Ministry. In her pastime she enjoyed gardening, reading, doing crossword puzzles, playing cards, bingo, and baking. She started a family tradition of baking and decorating Christmas cookies with her daughters and friends, which later turned into an annual holiday party with her grandkids and their friends. Her belief of spending quality time with family and loving others will forever be embedded in our hearts. She went home to be with the Lord on Sunday December 3, 2017; following an extended illness. She was preceded in death by her husband James L. Tatum, son Damian Keith Moore, parents, brothers PFC John Moore and Walter Moore, grandmother Sarah Moore Tharp, aunt Grace Burks. George Ann leaves to cherish her precious memories, her devoted and loving daughters Melanie (Dale) Gresson, Rochae (Dale) Price, God-daughter Alexa Laverick; granddaughters Bria Gresson, Morgan Gresson, Daisha Price and Kayla Nixon; grandson Avery Price; great –grandchildren Sophia Gresson and Christian Nixon; sisters Cathy Risby (Canton), Sarah Moore (Columbus), DeAndreia (Ken) Bell (Akron); brother Quentin (Cynthia) Moore (Canton); aunts Virginia Jamerson (Canton), Grace Lewis (California) and Ruth Moore (Canton); best friend Marilyn McClesky (Canton), sister-friends Sharon Ferguson, Sylvia Hill, Vertis Young , Beverly Pitts, Margaret Chism and a host of family and friends.
