George Johnson, Jr. was born to the union of George Johnson, Sr. and Laura Lee Washington of Prattville, Alabama. He moved to Columbus, Ohio, at a young childhood age. George met the love of his life (Florence Davidson) at a prayer meeting and, after a short courtship, they married in 1965 in Columbus. To this union, three children were born. George received Jesus Christ at an early age. He served under the tutelage and leadership of Reverend Homer Arnold, the founder and pastor of Consolidated Missionary Baptist Church. Later, George served under Pastor M. J. Mitchell of Pilgrim Baptist Church. In 1977, he answered the call to the ministry and was ordained as a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. After serving in several ministries, he returned to New Generation Church (formerly Consolidated MBC) where he served until his passing. Reverend Johnson believed in hard work and always had at least one job; however, he commonly worked two jobs at a time to provide for his family. He worked over thirty years with Columbus, Worthington, and Dublin City Schools combined. He also worked for T. Marzetti Company for several years. On September 17, 1990 (his granddaughter’s date of birth), he started George Johnson Janitorial Services. At the age of 79, Reverend Johnson was called from earthly labor to heavenly reward on February 18, 2018. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, George Noble and George Johnson, sisters, Rosie Kate Robinson of Ohio, and Betty Washington of Alabama, and brothers, Jesse (Dorothy) Johnson of Ohio, Arthur and Jimmie Lee, both of Alabama. George is survived by his wife of 52 years, Florence Davidson Johnson; sons, Reginald (Tracy) Johnson of Virginia, and Rodney Johnson of Texas; God-Daughter Martha Denise Holt of Ohio; sisters, Clatie Frye of New York, Etta McCant of Florida, and Lillie Mae Johnson of Alabama; brothers, Dan Johnson and Charles Johnson, both of Alabama; grandchildren, Brandon Johnson of Ohio, and Ciara (Perry) Alter of California; brother-in-law Rudolph Robinson; best friend, Huey Granderson; and a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and –nephews, other relatives and friends.
