George Slate Sr

George M. Slate, Sr. was born on May 5, 1914 in Edmonton, AB, Canada and departed this life on Monday, September 10, 2012. He was a faithful member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church for many years, including his service to the Men's Chorus. George loved his family dearly and was always most happy when he was surrounded by them. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service, where he delivered mail for 30 years. George was preceded in death by his parents Matthew Slate, Effie and Patrick Heard; his loving wife of 49 years Bernice (Porter) Slate; his sisters Josephine (Heard) Johnson and Patricia Heard and his firstborn son George Slate, Jr. He leaves to cherish his memory his son, Arthur (Margo) Slate; daughter, Diane (Clarence) Reavling; daughter-in-law, Marcialene (George) Slate; great nieces, Stephanie (Michael) Beaver and Patricia Richardson; grandchildren, Kevin (Angie) Slate, Gregory Slate, Steven (Yvette) Slate, Anthony (Tamyka) Slate, Kelli (Deric) Cobb, and Scott Reavling; and a host of great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
