Georgetta Givens

GEORGETTA “GG” GIVENS gained her wings on Monday, April 10, 2023, at the age of seventy-eight. Georgetta was born to Essie Mae Lewis and Willie James Solomon on Tuesday, February 13, 1945, in Montgomery, Alabama. She relocated to Detroit, Michigan in 1955, where she attended Friendship Baptist Church and was in the Baptist Young People’s Union (BYPU).

Georgetta later moved to Columbus, Ohio and was a proud graduate of Central High School, Class of 1963. Following graduation, Georgetta was employed, as a model, by the Lazarus Department Store. She later retired from Value City at the Schottenstein Center.

Georgetta was a devoted mother and caregiver. In her leisure, she enjoyed playing Bid Wiz, fishing on the river, going to the beach, cooking a good southern home meal, and most of all, spending time with her family. Additionally, Georgetta was a member of the Young Executive Souls Motorcycle Club. In 2016, Georgetta experienced a stroke. Being bedridden did not destroy her zeal for life. She exhibited great strength and maintained high spirits. She continued to enjoy watching her Westerns and loved family gatherings.

Georgetta joins her husband, Frank “Butch” Givens; mother, Essie Mae Lewis; father, Willie James Solomon; and son, Noland “Blue” Solomon in heaven.

Loving memories are cherished by her daughter, Dianne Solomon; grandsons, Lafayette Solomon, Frank Solomon, and Noland Solomon; her only granddaughter, Da’cia Lanay Solomon; great grandchildren, Terrietta Williams, A’cianay Solomon, and Frank Solomon Jr.; special friend, Jay Little; and a host of other family members and dear friends. Georgetta was loved by many, a mother to all, and will be missed dearly.
