A life well-lived, Georgia Lorraine Bennett, 89, peacefully entered into eternal rest in the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Wednesday, January 24, 2024. Georgia was born on June 14, 1934 in Columbus, Ohio where she attended Columbus Public Schools.
Georgia gave her life to Christ at an early age in her home church, Church of Christ of the Apostolic Faith located on Goodale Street under the leadership of the late Bishop Karl Franklin Smith. She was a prayer warrior and loved singing in the choir. Later she joined Southeast Apostolic Mission, Redeemer South, and lastly, she was a faithful member of Grace New Covenant Worship Center for the last 25 years. As the Head of the Mother’s Board, Mother Bennett developed and maintained several loving relationships including Sister Judy McGee, Minister Marjorie Sullen, Pastor Elizabeth Hodge, Elder Alberta Simpson, Elder Cherrie Freeman and Sister Tona McNeal and many others she loved.
Mother Georgia was a kind and caring person who valued her family, faith, and community.
She was a creative and resourceful person who enjoyed hunting for unique treasures. She had a talent for finding hidden gems and turning them into beautiful pieces that reflected her personal style. It was undetectable that her fashionable clothing were smart buys from yard sales. Even her home was a reflection of her eclectic taste and eye for detail. Georgia marveled in the beauty of God's nature as she took pride in tending to her meticulous yard filled with an abundance of vibrant plants. It's wonderful that she was able to create a beautiful and unique space both inside and outside. Her love for thrift shopping and yard sales is a great lesson in sustainability and the joy of discovery!
Georgia was a true matriarch, with a heart of gold and a home that was always open to others. She took great pride in her home, making sure it was always spotless and welcoming. Her love for cooking and baking was legendary, and her skills in the kitchen were unmatched. The list of her signature dishes reads like a mouthwatering menu, with each item sounding more delicious than the last. Many loved her chicken and dumplings, peach cobbler, strawberry cobbler, blackberry cobblers, strawberry, caramel, coconut and pound cakes, melt in your mouth parker house yeast rolls and who can forget her festive Christmas cookies! But it was more than just the food - it was the warmth and love she shared with everyone who sat at her table. She had a gift for making everyone feel like they belonged, and her home was a sanctuary for all who entered. Her legacy lives on through the countless memories made around her table and the love she shared with others.
Mother Bennett prioritized spiritual growth through prayer meetings and Bible study. She could not get enough of God’s Word. She served faithfully at Grace New Covenant in attendance. She was there with a wonderful smile each time the doors were open. She served in the kitchen, and was an active member of the Mothers’ Board and enjoyed visiting the sick and shut in. She attended the Tuesday afternoon and evening Bible Studies. She loved being on the weekly prayer calls on Thursdays and Friday evenings. Mother also joined other Bible Studies at Church of Christ of the Apostolic Faith and Elder Charles Jordan’s Bible Study at Apostolic Faith Temple. She enjoyed watching and singing along with the television ministry of Jimmy Swaggart, with the old hymns of the church. Mother Bennett retired from the State of Ohio after 25 years of dedicated service. For the past several years she was an active member of Urban Aging Residents Coalition(UARC).
