Gerald 'Jerry' Nowell

Gerald Nowell was born January 31, 1936 in Columbus, Ohio. He was the third son to Lionel Sr. and Alberta (Smith) Nowell. He was a graduate of East High School after an outstanding athletic career earning honors in Football, Basketball and Track. He earned an athletic scholarship in Football and graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. He taught school in Cleveland Ohio before going into private business. He and his family moved back to Columbus where he helped start a residential Construction Co. and built several apartment projects. Later in life he continued to have private ventures and remained an entrepreneur until his illness of Alzheimer’s and heart failure. He spent his last years as a resident at Isabelle Ridgeway Care Center, where he was President of the Men’s Group and an active participant in Social Events. Gerald passed away peacefully at his daughter’s home on Monday, December 9, 2013 after a short battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his former wife Carole (Greene) Nowell, his parents Lionel Sr. and Alberta Nowell, his brothers Lionel Jr. and James Nowell. Survived by brothers Robert and Mel Nowell, children, Joann Hython, Andrea Beckham, Deanna Johnson, Dana Nowell, Jay Nowell. Christian Nowell, Devon Nowell, many nieces and nephews, 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
