Geraline Daniels

Geraline “Mama Geri” Daniels, was born on August 2, 1929 in Columbus, Ohio.  She passed away at age 82 on Veteran’s Day November 11, 2011 at Mount Carmel Hospital East. She attended her grandfather’s (Rev. Kendall) church where he was a Methodist minister until he died in 1935. She went through the Columbus school system with academic honors, worked as manager for “Hops Cleaners” after her first marriage in 1945 to Charles Phillips.  She had her one and only child, Gloria, in 1947.  She married her second husband, George Daniels in 1950. She was co-owner with her mother of a dress/hat shop (MaeLene Creations) in the early 1950s. Along with being a professional seamstress at age of 13, she was a housewife and a very active PTA member for all of the extend children she raised. When she was 36, she suffered a severe stroke the left her permanently paralyzed. She never considered herself as disabled. After rehabilitation, she remained a devoted wife and mother to all.  She was considered by those who knew and loved her as the “Matriarch” of the family.   Her “lemon into lemonade” philosophy afforded her the hobbies she loved best, which were reading and working crossword puzzles.  Many an intellect came to her quite often for information and trivia answers.  Her husband died in 1995 and that is when her daughter came to reside with her. Preceded in death by her parents, Geoffrey Marsh and Rena Mae Marsh Myers; husband, George W. Daniels; siblings, Gloria Smith, Geoffrey R. Marsh and Grace L. Fletcher; and niece, Cheryl A. Cleveland. Survived by daughter, Gloria Phillips; eldest relative/cousin, Arnett Butler; sister-in-law, Dorothy Moore; nieces and nephews, Geraline R. Spurlock, Geoffrey R.T. Marsh, Grace A. Scales, Joy (Abraham) Moye, Tonye Patano, Kassaundra (Billy) Anderson, Sharon, Cameron and Coral Marsh; great relatives, Richard (Sonja) Bass, Jolita Spurlock and Ada Smith and niece-in-law, Anita Johnson.
