Gregory Jones

Born on February 02, 1954, Gregory Jones was the second child of four children born to the late Herbert and Elsie (Washington) Jones. Gregory, a husband, stepfather, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend departed this life on Sunday, August 29, 2010, after a long battle of illness at Arbor East Subacute and Rehabilitation Center. Gregory, affectionately known as “Greg” was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. During his childhood, we was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church. He attended Columbus City Schools, graduating from South High School in 1972, where he was the captain of the wrestling team. Greg was a avid lover of anything related to the Arts. In 1977, he graduated fro the Columbus College of Art and Design with a Bachelor Degree in Fine Arts where he received the Outstanding Senior Award. After graduating, Greg relocated to Brooklyn, New York accepting his first position at DiFranza Williamson, Inc. as a Staff Illustrator. From 1983 to 2003, he was employed as an illustrator by Arnold Worldwide/NY, formerly known as Jordan, McGraff, Case Taylor, where he worked on Comps, Illustrations, and commercial storyboards. A few of his major accounts were with Hasbro, Quaker Oats, Butterfinger, Bounty, Nestle and Welch’s. Additionally, he co-created the cartoon to Go-BOTS and spearheaded the artistry of the Welch’s Grape Juice can. In Brooklyn, New York, Greg met Joni Spencer at one of his favorite restaurants, Zoo Fifth Avenue. It was love at first site and they became long term partners until they united in holy matrimony on October 13, 2000. After their union, he became a stepfather to Jason Spencer. Greg, “The King of New York” will be missed by all those who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Elsie Jones; paternal grandparents, John and Gretha Jones, maternal grandparents Thomas and Levella Washington; and sister-in-law, Robin. He leaves to cherish his memory wife, Joni Spencer-Jones, of Brooklyn, New York; his stepson, Jason Spencer, of Mitchell, Virginia; mother and father-in-law, Joan and Harry Robinson, of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania; brothers, Herbert H. Jones (Deborah), of Houston, Texas and Frankie (Deanna) Jones, of Columbus, Ohio; sister, Pattie (Cloys) Patrick, of Pharr, Texas; sister-in-law, Cheryl; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews cousins, as well as numerous friends.
