Gwendolyn Thomas, affectionately known as Gwen was born on September 4, 1939 to Flora and Clarence Taylor in Beloit, Alabama. In the early years of her life, Gwen accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior. As she grew, she continued to be nurtured and enriched in her faith. Through all the ups and downs in her life, she kept her eyes and her heart on God. From the union of her first marriage to Walter Brentson (deceased), were born three daughters: Carmella (Scott) Mitchell, Pamela Brentson, and Cynthia (Mike) Primeau. Gwen had many other young women in her life that she chose to brand as her daughters; she let them know that she would not be complete without them sharing her life. There is this song “These Are A Few Of My Favorite Things!” and among Gwen’s favorite things were her grandchildren: Maria, James (Charlie), Ashley, Brandon, Easton (Shaun), Jeremy, Frankie (Nick), Taylor, Naomi, Samantha, Emily, and Glen. Phone conversations with friends and family were a favorite of Gwen’s. When one heard Gwen on the phone your thoughts would come to one conclusion, “She’s happy”! Many mornings started, and evenings ended, with Gwen picking up the phone, leaning on one elbow, smiling, and exclaiming “Hello Baby Sister!” All listeners knew she was speaking to Sandee. Gwen’s sense of style was displayed in the way she dressed and in a loving way she “told others how to dress too”. Gwen loved to travel. While on one of her trips, she met who was to be her future husband, James “Major” Thomas. They were wed in 1998, and for the past 20 years their love has grown. Major affectionately referred to Gwen as “His China Doll”. Seven years ago, Gwen and Major journeyed to Delaware to be closer to family. Every opportunity that Gwen‘s health would allow she attended Outreach Christian Center where she would listen to her beloved Pastor Kimberly Strain. Gwen’s pastor was with her during her final moments. Pastor Kim reminded us: “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord”. Gwen is preceded in death by her mother, father, and sister, Jacqueline Brown. She leaves behind to cherish and rejoice in her memory her husband, James “Major” Thomas, sister, Saundra (Larry) Huguely, daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren: Lauren, LJ, Toni, Gwen, Brandon, Pam, Ari, Sebastian, Avery, Bennett, and Kason; her “favorite” nieces and nephews, and a host of other family members and friends. Humbly submitted… Her Loving Family
