Gwendolyn “Gwennie” Stevens Johnson of Columbus, Ohio. Born to the late Samuel H. and Geraldine E. Stevens on January 5th, 1943. She attended Central High School in Columbus, Ohio. Growing up, Gwen was a member of Godman Guild Community Center. She grew up in what was called “Flytown” on the west side of Columbus and attended many of their reunions. Gwen was a member of the Southside Community Senior Program located on Parsons Avenue in Columbus and a member of her neighborhood Block Watch program. Gwen worked for the State of Ohio, Department of Corrections in the mental health department and also in Food Services. Gwen’s greatest enjoyment was spending time with her huge family, offering advice on everything from cooking to dressing and accessorizing. She loved drawing, entertaining, and traveling with her family. Her travels included trips to Southern California and a trip to Hawaii with her mother and siblings. Gwen loved the Lord and was a former member of Eagles Nest Fellowship Church of God (now Life Church at Easton) and most recently a member of Connection Pointe Church of God (formerly Grove City Church of God). Gwen was a devoted mother to six children: Rise L. Stevens, Monica L. Johnson, David A. Johnson, William A. Johnson III, Cher A. Johnson, and Erle M. Johnson all of Columbus, Ohio. Preceded in death by her parents Samuel H. and Geraldine E. Stevens; Brother Michael L. Stevens; Sister Brenda Stevens; Brother Marvin A. Stevens; son David A. Johnson; and grandson Marlon D. Johnson. Survived by brother Samuel Stevens of Agoura Hills, California; special “sister” cousin June Dyer; daughters Rise L. Stevens, Monica A. Johnson, and Cher A. Johnson all of Columbus, Ohio. Also, sons William A. (Kala) Johnson III of Grove City, Ohio; Erle M. (Tonya) Johnson of Canal Winchester, Ohio. Special granddaughter Rendia D. Stokes and special grandson Denzel R. Johnson both of Columbus, Ohio. Also survived by 11 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and nine great, great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
