Harry Jones Jr

Harry Ellsworth Jones, Jr., 91, departed this life peacefully on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 of natural causes at Brookdale Assisted Living Chestnut Hill. Harry was born on September 2, 1923 in Youngstown, Ohio to parents Harry L. and Tina Stevens Jones. Harry faithfully served in the U.S. Army for 32 years, including World War II, Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He enlisted in 1940, joining an African American Platoon, thus becoming a “Buffalo Solder.” He retired as a Master Sergeant in 1972. After he retired from the military, he worked for 28 years as a tow truck dispatcher for Noble’s Towing. Harry always said, “No matter how long I live, or whatever jobs I have, I will always be a GI.” Harry is preceded in death by his parents; wife Queene; daughter Cheri LaRochester; grandson Harry D. Jones, Jr.; siblings Paul Jones, Virgil Lewis, Talbert Jones, Jr., and Bette Logan. Harry is survived by sons, Harry D. Jones, Sr., Darrell S. Jones; daughter, Grace (James) Bridgeford; sister-in-law, Karen Jones; eight grandchildren, Cherita Streeter, Robert E. (Mylea) Jones, Dawn, Shana and Reginald LaRochester, James Bridgeford II (Vanise de Sa Januario); ten great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
