Harry Watkins, Jr. was born in Madison County, Alabama on February 22, 1927. He attended Canton McKinley High School and later earned his GED. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and served several years in United States Navy Reserve. Harry worked many years as a preserver of meats at Canton Provision. Additionally, Harry was an independent home improvement contractor performing wallpapering, painting, roofing, heating and cement jobs. He enjoyed travel, sewing/tailoring, leather craft, fishing, golf and bowling. He was a member of Mt. Calvary 2nd Missionary Baptist Church in Canton, Ohio until he moved to Columbus, Ohio in 1974 and became a member of Second Baptist Church. On April 10, 2016, at the age of 89, Harry Watkins, Jr. passed away while at the Isabelle Ridgway Care Center in Columbus, Ohio. Harry is predeceased by his father Harry Watkins, Sr., his mother Nannie Lee Fearn Watkins, his first wife of 29 years and the mother of their children Mary B. (Woods) Watkins, his second wife of 37 years Bettie (Johnson) Watkins, a son Victor Trevor Watkins, his sister Wanda Fowler, and brothers, Charles Fearn Watkins and John William Watkins. Harry is lovingly remembered by his children, Altheria Unger of Columbus, Ohio, Harry (Melba) Watkins, III of Springfield, Virginia, Leonard H. (Barbara) Watkins of Akron, Ohio, Cornell (Ginger) Watkins of Belpre, Ohio, Marcus R. Watkins of Columbus, Ohio, Chante’ (Tony) Siler of Columbus, Ohio, and stepson Bruce (Sonora) Johnson, Jr. of Lexington, Kentucky; brothers, Mitchell Watkins of Canton, Ohio and Joe Louis Watkins of Dayton, Ohio; sisters, Paralee Compton of Canton, Ohio and Mary Elizabeth (Marshall) Barnes of Columbus, Ohio; 15 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
